Governor Wike To Employ 6,000 Teachers

The Rivers State government has announced plans to increase the teaching strength in the state schools with the employment of no less than 6, 000 highly trained teachers./ The aim is to bridge the existing shortfall in the sector.

This was disclosed by the state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike on a monitored Channels Television breakfast programme, “Sunrise Daily’.

Wike said his administration is set to employ 6, 000 more teachers in a bid to further improve the standard of learning in the educational institutions in state.

He said the employment of more teachers for Rivers schools is not negotiable.

Reacting to a recent release by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, NBS, that Rivers State has the highest number of unemployed persons in the country. The governor he said, “I don’t believe in the statistics given by NBS. I disagree with them (NBS). How did they arrive at their submission? It is laughable to say the least”.

Wike said the state government has since rejected the NBS report that there is high percentage of unemployment in Rivers State and stated that his administration will create more jobs.

He explained that the, government is creating an enabling environment key for the creation of jobs but stressed that security is key to job creation. .

“If you go to Onne today, the Port is busy because things have improved tremendously. Security is key for job creation and I must say that my government has created thousands of jobs since inception”, he concluded.
