Members of the Cross River State chapter of GECORN recently visited His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu, V, KSM, Obong of Calabar, Natural Ruler, Treaty King, Defender of the Christian Faith and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom and members of his to interact with them on issues VAWG and gender equity as captured in the Women Manifesto.

The team comprising of Blessing Egwu, senior state counsel in the Ministry of Justice, Department of Public Prosecution, Chief Lady Winifred Affi Okon, rtd. Comptroller of Customs, Pastor Ewongo Abasi Okon and others.

At the end of the very interactive four-hour advocacy session, there was a proclamation by His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu, V, KSM, Obong of Calabar, Natural Ruler, Treaty King, Defender of the Christian Faith and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom. He commended the Cross River State GECORN team and thanked them for taking time to discuss the issues with the Council.

The Obong specially the women activists for presenting the WOMANIFESTO, Women’s Charter of demand to the Council, pointing out that, they were the first group to interface with the council on VAWG. He charged his Etuboms to implement the GECORN demands   in their kingdom and promised to collaborate with GECORN Cross River State.

The advocacy meeting held at the Palace of the Obong of Calabar on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with the Obong of Calabar, Natural Ruler, Treaty King, Defender of the Christian Faith and Grand Patriarch of the Efik Kingdom, Chairman, Etubom Traditional Rulers’ Council, Etuboms and the Obong’s advisers.
