The incident took place in Idogbo community of Okpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State where the two brothers were alleged to have had homosexual relationship with one M. Osagie Williams in November 2014.
However, the matter took a near tragic turn when youths from the community, believed to have been instigated by a chief in the community, descended on the two brothers, beat them to a state of coma and were getting set to do more harm when the police arrived.
A source said: “The police had to fire live bullets and teargas before they could disperse them. Otherwise, those suspects would be dead by now. It was in the whole confusion that the Okoro brothers found a way to escape”, Rivers Today Newspaper reported.
Williams has been in police custody since the incident.
The mother of the two Young men was said to have been forcefully ejected and banished from the community. She reportedly lost all her possessions including phones.
The Edo State police command has denied newsmen access to the detained Osagie Williams nor issued any statement on the incident.
The Force PPRO, DSP Francis Ogunyinaka when contacted by National Point on Monday August 2, did not respond to calls.
