Be Safety Conscious Over Railway Tracks- Commissioner Advises Communities

Delta State commissioner for Transport, Hon. Basil Ganagana has appealed to residents of communities host to railway tracks to take extra-precautionary safety measures to avoid deaths and other unpleasant situations.
The commissioner made the appeal when he visited Ujevwu (Warri-Itakpe) Railway Service Station Terminal in Udu Local Government Area to ascertain the cause of the train accident that led to the death of a mother and her daughter on August 5, 2021.
Ganagana said the state government felt bad about the incident, adding that though the railway was a federal government project, Deltans would benefit much from it.
He said there was urgent need to carry out adequate enlightenment campaigns through the print and broadcast media to forestall such occurrence in the future.
The commissioner further reiterated that life was sacrosanct and charged community members with railway track routes transcending their communities to stay far from the tracks to avoid unexpected consequence adding that the train has a programmed movement unlike vehicles that sometimes can maneuver.
Some staff at the railway service station terminal briefed the commissioner on the accident and guided him when he trekked to the point where the ugly incident occurred.
